Troodos Network

It was in 1999 that a group of youngsters, members of the Youth Centers of Troodos area researched and committed to paper and problems we are faced with due to our decision to remain in the countryside and go against the flow of history.

Employment opportunities in the countryside were sparse, cultural life was poor, and the syllabus of the small schools of elementary education in the field of secondary lessons was even poorer, since the curriculum itself downgrades them.

Music, dance, theatre, art-even cinema, these words are almost unknown to children. T.V is the king of entertainment with all its bad consequences.

Even though children live in the countryside,no organized effort is being made so as to acquaint them with their cultural heritage, our customs and mores. 

At the same time, as regards current social problems, the state was inexistent. All actions are centered around town, where young people have a strong presence and those few living in the country are forgotten.

As a result of all the above, a vision was born, to make our own intervention, to create culture at the Troodos mountain, hoping to raise awareness in the competent bodies, with hopes for a better tomorrow.

We therefore centered our efforts to four areas that, on one hand offered solutions, and on the other opened the way for youths to decide to remain in the countryside. At the same time, we work on the quality of life of these young people who would decide to remain in the countryside so as to prevent disappointment leading to an even worse outcome:

So the Troodos Network was initiated, that happened to fit in with the Limassol District Administration’s efforts for   a clustering of the Communities, in view of the European Union.

This keeping in pace with one another aided our efforts immensely and at the same time created the right conditions for making acquaintances and for promoting our efforts, but most of all put in place the basis of the district by contributing to the decline of localism.

From the other side our Tourist Organization set up a new body special for the mountainous resorts of Troodos so our NGO work as the base to build up for the mountainous resorts development .
